thanks for your work

Re: New homepage rollout.

First off, w3cschool's stats are terrible. As a tip, if you want a better picture of the state of the market, you'll want to look at a site like Statcounter.

That aside, TF2B's target demographic is very specific and targets a group that is (relatively) very tech savvy - so the relevant statistics are inverted somewhat. If you look at Steam's Hardware survey, only 14% of Steam users are running XP compared to 53% on Windows 7.

On a more personal level, Google's analytics reports a 13% share for Windows XP, a 4.9% total share for all versions of IE with 19% of that 4.9% being IE8.

So ultimately it's not really worth it to support IE8 as it's a minority of a minority. If the opposite was true then there would be value in support, but otherwise it's just a whole load of fallback bloat.

If you'd like, I can publish the Browser/OS stats in a future blogpost for everyone to look over.

Re: New homepage rollout.

Hey, it's your site, do whatever you want. Team Fortress 2 supports Windows XP, so it seems reasonable that a portion of TF2B's demographic would still use Windows XP.

Other sites like OPTF2 and TF2 Items support IE 8. In addition, it appears that more people currently use IE 8 than IE 9 (http://www.w3schools.com/brows.... However, I'm not particularly surprised that the search function doesn't work in IE 8, because TF2B's backpacks never displayed properly in IE 8 anyway.

Re: New homepage rollout.

Thank you, full url support and making the in-backpack ID form redirect straight to backpacks would make it perfect.

Re: New homepage rollout.

I don't know how much effort you put into that update but honestly i'm a long time user of TF2B and i dislike the new interface very much . Mainly because i use your website alot and i hate when something i like changes like that , maybe time will make me get used to it , i dunno :p

Re: New homepage rollout.

Yes, so enter the id from the backpack view instead. There is no need to visit the homepage in such a case, it's only there to provide an initial choice to the user.

As for full URLs, it's part of a known issue and I'm working on a better solution, it should roll out in a few days hopefully.

Re: New homepage rollout.

yes, I saw that, but maybe I didn't made myself clear: I mean if I type the ID or the Steam 64ID from the main page and press enter, it took me directyl to my game I saved...

oh and btw, I think before the update, if I posted a full URL like http://steamcommunity.com/id/r... it worked, now it took to me to http://tf2b.com/tf2/http://ste... page that doesn't work

thanks again

Re: New homepage rollout.

It already does this if you 'search' from within a backpack, it'll automatically take you to the relevant game.

Re: New homepage rollout.

Sorry, but it's your choice to use an outdated browser on a decade-old OS.

If you want the website to work, then you'll need to use a browser that is compliant with modern web-standards.

Re: New homepage rollout.

First of all: thanks for all your work.
Then, if you have time, you could implement some sort of "save this game" putting in cookie also the game a user are interested in (I saw you already do that with iconset, stylsheets...) . I mean, I only see TF2 backpack, I already bookmarked my accounts but it is nice for other trader's account that the site remember my choice and redirect me to TF2 backpack.
Have a nice work!

Re: New homepage rollout.

IE 9 doesn't run on XP.

I can use other browsers, but I thought accomodating several browsers and versions would be important.

Re: New homepage rollout.

If it's not working in IE, then you need to update your version of IE to 9.

The homepage is designed to equally accomodate each of the 4(.1) games that are supported. Having such a function will not accomodate users that do not play TF2 - and only play Dota 2 for instance.

However, the equivalent box on the actual backpack view will take into account the current context and function as it did previously. So use that instead if it's that big of an issue.

Re: New homepage rollout.

I don't like it. I used to be able to enter the ID in the text box and press 'Enter'.

Now, it doesn't work at all in Internet Explorer, and I have to enter the name on the keyboard and then use the mouse. It would be nice if I could enter the name, press 'Enter', and it would take me directly to the TF2 backpack.

Re: New homepage rollout.

Maybe.

Could you, please add anchors to the different pages of our BPs?

Example :
http://tf2b.com/tf2/FWD1#3
Will redirect to the 3rd page of my BP.

Thank you my dear friend, I like this new system!

Re: New homepage rollout.

You can still bookmark/favourite the backpack pages in question and access them directly.

I'll be making the in-backpack ID form redirect to backpacks rather than the homepage going forwards however.

Re: New homepage rollout.

I dont like it.
